Project Description

Reflexology is a complementary ‘touch’ therapy

It involves the therapist applying pressure to predefined areas on the feet and lower legs, hands or ears. These areas are reputed to connect directly through the nerve endings to every system and organ in the body. Massage strengthens bodily systems, promotes healing and induces a feeling of wellbeing.

Reflexology has a holistic approach, so it aims to treat the person as a whole – physically, emotionally and spiritually rather than isolating one specific area. It is known to be particularly effective for relieving stress and promoting relaxation and is used extensively alongside conventional medicine for cancer patients and those with terminal conditions.

It is also thought to be particularly beneficial as an aid to conception and during pregnancy, birth and beyond as it helps regulate hormonal activity and alleviates many common pregnancy problems. It also reduces stress and relieves pain in labour.

As a midwife, I predominantly see pregnant women particularly those hoping to have a reflexology session to bring about labour when they are facing chemical induction!

Whilst I make no claims that I can induce labour, I have evidence that suggests well over 50% of the women I see who are ‘term’ (37-42 weeks) go into labour within 72 hours of a treatment….my feeling is that a combination of reflexology AND the opportunity to relax and talk away fears or worries, contributes greatly to the onset of labour!

I will often combine guided relaxation with reflexology during pregnancy and this appears to work amazingly well.

I also offer a 6 month course of Reflexology to aid conception – please contact me if you would like more information.

Reflexologists tend to massage the soles of the feet and lower legs due to the larger surface area. The feet tend to be more sensitive and receptive to massage as they are protected by shoes; but the hands and ears can be massaged as an alternative.

Schedule Appointment

What to expect at your reflexology appointment

At your first appointment, a detailed health and lifestyle questionnaire will be completed. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have. This then gives me the information I need to tailor the session to you as an individual.

A foot bath will always be offered prior to treatment, but many people like to have a shower or bath before they come.

The session takes place in a converted cabin in my garden in Great Dalby.

You will be relaxing comfortably on a therapy couch and I will sit on a stool at your feet. It’s a good idea to bring some socks with you for afterwards to keep your feet warm. Comfortable clothing is also a good idea, as you will be reclining for around 40 minutes. I apply firm touch, it will not tickle!

I like to play music because it helps me to concentrate and you to relax. I work in natural daylight in the summer months and use low-level lighting in the darker months.

I make my own reflexology wax which contain a blend of essential oils appropriate to your requirements at the time. If you are pregnant, these are pregnancy-safe.

Price: £40

*Areas covered include Kibworth, Market Harborough, Leicester, Northampton and the surrounding areas of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Aftercare Advice

After any complementary therapy treatment, it is advisable to follow the following advice:

  • Drink around 8 glasses of water over the next 24 hours

  • Rest and relax

  • Avoid stimulants such as caffeine, smoking, alcohol

  • Leave the oils on for as long as possible

  • Avoid sunbeds or direct sunlight as your skin will burn or discolour
