“It can be defined as the art and science of utilising naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonise and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It seeks to unify physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process”.
Aromatherapy massage is a hands-on holistic, complementary therapy which aims to bring about relaxation or increase energy levels. It is beneficial in reducing stress and brings about a feeling of balance to the whole person; mind, body and soul.
Essential oils are extracted by various means from flowers and plants, barks and resins. They are therefore ‘natural’ but are used with caution. They are combined in tiny quantities with a base oil to produce a massage oil.
Aromatherapy can be used to alleviate tension and stress and support and enhance the body’s natural functions through massage into the skin, vapourisation or immersion. Aromatherapy can be of benefit to a range of health conditions, particularly those of a chronic nature, depression and pregnancy and during labour and afterwards.
At your first appointment, a detailed health and lifestyle questionnaire will be completed. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have. This then gives me the information I need to tailor the session to you as an individual.
Many people like to have a shower or bath before they come. It is beneficial to leave the oils on your skin for a few hours after the massage as they will continue to have a therapeutic effect.
The session takes place in a beautiful little log cabin in my garden.
You will be lying comfortably on a therapy couch firstly on your back, then on your front. You can keep you underwear on but I will need to undo your bra when massaging your back ladies!
I massage the front and back of your legs, your arms, abdomen (if wanted) upper chest, shoulders, neck and back.
I like to play music because it helps me to concentrate and you to relax. I have low-level lighting and candles flickering which enhance the relaxing experience.
I make up an individualised blend of essential oils based on how you are feeling on the day, any health challenges at the time and my own intuition!
The massage takes approximately 40-45 minutes and your privacy is ensured throughout. If you are pregnant, your position for massage is adapted to the stage of pregnancy and a ‘safe’ essential oil blend is used.
